The Stikky team is excited that our new site is live – the final step in our recent rebranding. While the effort is now done, we definitely learned some lessons along the way that could perhaps be helpful when considering a web design project.
Website Rebuilds Need Leadership, Communication and Delegation.
The Stikky rebrand effort began in 2021 with the introduction of a new logo, colors and font by the design team. We then worked the new style into our sales documents, but it took awhile to reach the marketing side of the house who would be tasked with creating the content.
The need was there, but the team lacked direction or a specific timeline to go live – which sharply contrasts how we handle client web builds! For the Stikky website rebuild our senior project manager Candance stepped in and did a great job delegating work and making sure the Stikky team was on the same page. Kelsey developed the site while Hannah, Ryan and Mike provided case studies and content. It was a great team effort.
Lesson learned: Make sure your website refresh has a clear timeline and the resources necessary to meet the timeline. This focused effort with clear delegation of responsibilities will make things move more quickly.
80% is better than never launched.
While we’re proud of our effort in launching the new website including the introduction of some new Services, there are still things that could be changed. We noted these recommendations and have saved them for phase 2.
Lessons Learned: Through this process we learned that 80% done is better than spinning your wheels for years without launching – again this delay is in sharp contrast to how we handle client redesigns!
Rebuilding is better than patching holes.
The old Stikky Media site was launched and enhanced over time by various members of our team, which of course is what needed to happen. The problem was there were multiple styles that lacked a cohesive vision. We learned this wasn’t the right approach and moved forward with the rebuild.
Lesson Learned: It would have been better to tear the old site down and rebuild rather than constantly patch up in multiple styles.
Just Do It
If there’s one main takeaway, it’s this. Whether you’re considering doing a website redesign in house or are looking to outsource to a web design agency like Stikky (shameless plug 😄), don’t fall victim to analysis by paralysis. Get inspired by Nike and “just do it”. Of course, if you need help with a WordPress or Shopify website designed for your small ecommerce business, we’re here to help!
