Project Overview

E.B. Horsman & Son is Western Canada’s largest independent, employee- and family-owned electrical supplier.

Our client sells over 14,000 products from over 650 supplies through its website with inventory tied to its ERP system. Order fulfillment can be done through shipping or in-person at one of their 20+ locations across British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan. Customers needed to have an account in order to purchase.

What They Needed

Already an existing marketing client, they were in need of a refreshed website to improve both its look and feel as well as the overall customer experience. However, its existing platform had limited capabilities for easy content management, which frustrated its marketing team. An additional constraint was their customers had to sign in to access their account and order products.

To make things even more challenging, their products were hosted on a subdomain which had a completely different user experience than the main domain.

We had to find a solution that enabled the client to continue to manage their dynamic product inventory through the subdomain while enabling their marketing team to create content more efficiently – all while creating a seamless user interface for customers.

To accomplish this in a cost-effective way, we recommended integrating their ERP platform with WordPress.

How We Helped The Client

  • Our development team worked closely with the EBH Marketing, IT and Ecommerce teams to design a new digital experience that enabled the client to find products easier and better serve their customers. 
  • Our Google ads team continued running highly successful targeted Google Ads campaigns, improving how they measured return on ad spend (ROAS).
  • Our SEO team optimized their products as well as their content marketing, advising their marketing team as needed.
  • Our project managers expertly guided the conversation, keeping communication flowing and working to keep the project on-track.

The Results

This project was successful on multiple fronts as it demonstrated our collective creativity and talent across the technical and marketing domains.

  • The client’s ecommerce and IT teams were successfully able to continue managing inventory on the backend through their ERP, while their marketing team enjoyed their new ability to more easily create and manage content for the front end.
  • Our SEO team optimized both their product pages and content marketing, advising their marketing team on SEO strategies. The end result was stronger search engine performance for product-specific and supplier-specific searches.
  • Lastly, we updated their 20+ locations around Western Canada, ensuring their location information was up-to-date across the Web and customers could easily find what they were looking for.
