We all hear about newsworthy tweets, like when @LeighFazzina crashed her bike in a forest with no cell reception and had to tweet a call for help. Or when @MarsPhoenix broke the news that ice was discovered on the Red Planet.

But what about those 140-character nuggets that seem ordinary on the surface, but actually have tearjerking, heartstring-tugging backstories? In its five-year history, Twitter has been a vehicle for everything from wardrobe indecision to revolutionary social ideas, and now they’ve created a site that gives you a behind-the-scenes glimpse into tweets that changed lives.
The new site, Twitter Stories, is designed to remind users “of the humanity behind tweets that make the world smaller.” It currently showcases about 16 tweets that are fleshed out with stories, photos and videos, and will be updated monthly with inspiring new tales. If you think your tweet has what it takes, you can submit your story by mentioning @twitterstories or by using the hashtag #twitterstories.

Scott Pakudaitis, aka @purplesquirrel, turned out to be a match. He offered up his kidney and they’re both living happily and healthily ever after.
